Barbados Crop Over Festival

Carnival
This famous festival is held by a number of islands throughout the year some of which are; Antigua, Aruba, Curacao, the Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, Saint Maarten, and, of course, Trinidad and Tobago. Bathed in, oil, mud and paint, hundreds of revelers take to the streets dressed up as devils, demons, monsters and imps. As the sun comes up, colorful bands of people wearing costumes with feathers, sequins and beads flood the streets doing the jump up and “wining” (gyrating hips) dance to calypso and soca music. With glittering costumes and exciting events, this is one street party not to be missed. So be sure to find this street party on any number of islands as you plan your adventure.
St.Lucia Gros Islet – Friday Night ‘Jump Up’ .
Every Friday evenings the place to be is in the small fishing village of Gros Islet, just north of of the island. There the narrow streets are dotted with colored houses as they provide the perfect backdrop for jammin’ Jump Ups. The local residents set up and host street barbeques, street bars and sound systems. The sizzling smells of barbequed fish gently waft through the streets, their famous dennery segment fill the air so party-goers can dance the night away.
Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival
The World Creole Music Festival has become very renowned on the region’s musical calendar. This music festival is held over three nights at the end of October filled with enthralling evenings beginning on the final Friday in October each year. This unique festival is held for more than twenty years in the Island’s capital city “Roseau”, for the enjoyment of viewers displaying various performances from different Caribbean genres. Once again the event features yet another three nights of music from dusk to dawn during the last weekend in October.Bringing together local, regional and international artists who create creole music.
